This is a complete carburetor replacement and tune-up kit for Toro 22-inch Recycler mowers powered by Kohler XT675, XT650, or similar 149cc engines (6.5–6.75 hp). It includes the carburetor, gaskets, fuel line, and filter—everything needed to fix hard-starting, surging, or fuel-flow issues.
Fitment & Compatibility
Before buying, verify these three things:
- Engine model: Must be Kohler XT675, XT650, or any 149cc/6.5–6.75 hp Courage series. Check the engine shroud for a model/type number.
- Mower model: Fits Toro 22" Recycler models 20371, 20378, 20377. Also fits some 20370, 20372, 20379 variants—confirm your mower’s model tag.
- OEM cross-reference: Replaces Kohler part 14 853 68-S. If your original carb has a different OEM number, measure the mounting bolt spacing (typically 60mm center-to-center) and fuel inlet diameter (usually 1/4"). This is an aftermarket part, not OEM Kohler.
Don’t assume fit for older Toro Recyclers (pre-2010) or non-Kohler engines (Briggs & Stratton, Honda).
Key Things to Know
- Quality is decent for the price – It’s a Chinese-made aftermarket unit. Most users report it works out of the box, but a few note the float level may need adjustment or the gaskets are slightly thinner than OEM.
- Installation is moderate – You’ll need a basic socket set, screwdrivers, and carb cleaner. Expect 30–45 minutes. Drain the fuel tank and remove the old carb completely—don’t just swap the bowl.
- Common gotcha: The included fuel line is often too short or too stiff. Keep your original line if possible. Also, the choke linkage may need a slight bend to align properly on some mowers.
- Tune-up kit includes extras – You get a spark plug, air filter, and fuel filter. The air filter may not match your Toro’s housing exactly; reuse your old one if it’s clean.
Should You Buy It
If your Toro Recycler is hard to start, runs rough, or leaks fuel and you want a low-cost fix, this kit is a solid value. It’s not for purists who need OEM parts, but it’s more than adequate for most homeowners. Skip it if your mower has a different engine brand or you’re not comfortable with basic carb work—consider a shop instead.
