The WFLNHB 799727 carburetor is an aftermarket replacement carb designed for single-cylinder air-cooled engines found on many riding lawn mowers and tractors in the 14HP to 18HP range. It meters fuel and air into the engine for combustion, replacing a failed or clogged OEM carb.
Fitment & Compatibility
Before buying, verify your engine’s model number (e.g., Briggs & Stratton 31C707 or similar) – not just the mower brand. This carb replaces OEM numbers 792768, 799727, 496796, 499153, 695412, 791886, 690194, 698620, and 594605. It fits most Briggs & Stratton, MTD, Craftsman, Husqvarna, and Troy-Bilt tractors with 14–18HP engines, but not all. Measure the mounting bolt spacing (typically 2.5 inches center-to-center) and check that the fuel inlet, choke linkage, and throttle linkage match your old carb. If your engine uses a separate gasket or insulator, order those separately – this kit includes only the carb.
Key Things to Know
- Quality is budget-tier. Expect plastic or pot-metal components; it works fine for most users but may not match OEM durability. Some units arrive with debris in the fuel bowl – flush it before installing.
- Installation is moderate. You’ll need to remove the air filter housing, fuel line, and linkage. Watch a video for your engine model – linkage orientation varies. A small screwdriver set and pliers are sufficient.
- Common gotcha: The carb may need minor adjustment. If the engine surges or runs rich, turn the idle mixture screw (if present) 1.5 turns out from lightly seated, then tune from there. Also, check that the gasket surface is clean – old gasket residue causes vacuum leaks.
- Compatibility is not universal. Some 17.5HP engines use a different carb pattern. If your old carb has a different number of mounting holes or a different choke arm shape, this won’t fit.
Should You Buy It
If you’re on a tight budget and your mower’s original carb is beyond cleaning (gummed up, broken float, stripped threads), this is a functional, cheap fix. It’s best for older tractors where spending $50+ on an OEM carb isn’t justifiable. Avoid it if you need a perfect OEM match, have a newer engine with electronic controls, or want a carb that will last more than 2–3 seasons without issues.
