This is an aftermarket carburetor assembly (with gaskets and fuel line) designed to replace the OEM unit on Honda GCV170 and GCV200 engines used in HRN216 and HRX217K6 walk-behind mowers. It restores fuel delivery and idle performance when the original carb clogs or fails.
Fitment & Compatibility
- Engine models: Honda GCV170LA (G5B, G5BR, S3B) and GCV200LA. Does not fit GCV160 or GCV190.
- Mower models: Honda HRN216 (all variants), HRX217K6 (all variants). Confirm your mower’s engine model on the valve cover or engine shroud.
- OEM vs aftermarket: This is a non-Honda part. The metal castings and gaskets may have slight dimensional differences. Check that your existing carburetor mounting studs are 80mm apart (center to center) – the most common fitment fail.
- What to measure: The carburetor bowl diameter is ~2.5 inches; ensure clearance in your air filter housing. The fuel inlet barb is 1/4 inch – verify your fuel line inner diameter matches.
- Tune-up kit includes: carburetor, gaskets, fuel filter, and a short fuel line. You still need a new air filter and spark plug separately.
Key Things to Know
- Quality: Good for the price but expect to clean out debris or re-set the float height (float should sit level when inverted) before installing. Some units arrive with a stuck needle valve.
- Installation difficulty: Moderate. You’ll need a screwdriver, socket set (10mm for bowl nut), and a carburetor adjuster tool (or small flathead for idle mixture screw). Plan 30–45 minutes.
- Common gotcha: The included gaskets may be too thick, causing an air leak. Use the old OEM gasket if the new one doesn’t compress fully. Torque the mounting nuts evenly to 5–7 ft-lbs.
- Tuning: After install, start the engine and let it warm up. Adjust the idle mixture screw (usually 1.5 turns out from lightly seated) until the engine runs smooth at idle.
Should You Buy It
Buy this if your Honda GCV170/200 engine won’t start or runs rough due to a clogged carb, and you want a budget fix. It’s fine for DIY maintenance, but if you need exact OEM fit or have a commercial mower, spend more on a genuine Honda carburetor. For $23, it’s a solid stopgap if you’re willing to tweak it.
