This is an aftermarket carburetor assembly designed to replace the OEM Honda 16100-Z0L-023 on GCV160A engines. It’s intended for Honda HRT216, HRR216, HRS216, HRB216, and HRZ216 walk-behind mowers, supplying the correct fuel-air mixture for reliable starting and running.
Fitment & Compatibility
- Engine: Must be a Honda GCV160A (check engine label under the fuel tank or on the valve cover). This will not fit GCV160, GCV190, or other GCV variants without the “A” suffix.
- Mower models: HRT216, HRR216, HRS216, HRB216, HRZ216 (all sub-models, e.g., HRR216K9, HRR216VKA). Deck size (21” or 22”) doesn’t affect fit—only the engine matters.
- OEM vs aftermarket: This is a non-OEM replacement. It should bolt on with the same two mounting bolts and use the same gaskets. Verify your existing carburetor has the same number of fuel inlet ports (single) and bowl drain screw location.
- Measurements: The mounting flange is 2.5” center-to-center. The choke linkage and throttle cable positions match the GCV160A. If your mower has a different linkage setup (e.g., older HRR216 with a GCV160), this will not work.
Key Things to Know
- Quality: At $16.99, expect a basic aftermarket carb. It may need minor adjustment of the idle mixture screw (turn 1.5 turns out as a baseline) and cleaning of any debris from the fuel bowl.
- Installation difficulty: Moderate. You’ll need a 10mm socket, a small flathead screwdriver, and maybe a pair of pliers for fuel line clamps. Plan 30-60 minutes.
- Common gotchas: The included gaskets are often thin—use a dab of grease to hold them in place during assembly. The float bowl screw may strip easily; tighten by hand only. If the engine won’t start, check that the fuel shutoff valve is open and the bowl is filling.
- Warranty: No Honda warranty; return window depends on seller. Test immediately.
Should You Buy It
Buy this if you have a GCV160A-equipped Honda mower that won’t start due to a gummed or failed carburetor, and you want a low-cost fix—not a long-term OEM rebuild. It’s ideal for DIYers comfortable with basic small-engine work. Skip it if you need exact OEM fit, have a different GCV engine variant, or want a carb with a metal float (this one has plastic).
