This is a replacement PTO (power take-off) switch for John Deere lawn tractors. It engages and disengages the mower deck blade clutch electrically. Designed for 100- and 200-series tractors as well as STX30/38 models.
Fitment & Compatibility
Before buying, confirm your tractor model and serial number range. This switch replaces OEM part AM101562 and fits:
- John Deere 130, 160, 165, 170, 175, 180, 185 (all deck sizes)
- John Deere STX30, STX38 (all deck sizes)
Check that your existing switch has the same blade terminal configuration (usually 5 or 6 terminals). Measure the mounting hole spacing—this switch uses a standard 1.125" center-to-center pattern. If your tractor uses a different OEM part number (e.g., AM104228 or GY20571), this may not work. Verify your model’s parts diagram online or match the switch shape and terminal layout to your old one.
Key Things to Know
- Quality: Stens is a reputable aftermarket brand. This switch is built to OEM specs, but it’s not a genuine John Deere part. Most users report it works reliably for 2-3 seasons.
- Installation difficulty: Easy—typically a 15-minute job. Unplug the old switch, remove the mounting nut, install the new one, and reconnect the wiring harness. No special tools required.
- Common gotcha: The switch may feel slightly different in operation (stiffer or softer) than the original. This is normal. If your PTO won’t engage after installation, double-check that the wiring harness is fully seated and the terminals are clean.
- Warranty: Stens offers a 1-year warranty against defects. Keep your receipt.
Should You Buy It
If your John Deere 130-185 or STX30/38 has a failing PTO switch (intermittent engagement, no engagement, or stuck on), this is a cost-effective, reliable replacement. It’s a direct fit for most models and much cheaper than a dealer OEM part. Best for DIY owners comfortable with basic electrical connections.
