SCAG Mulching Plate 9287

What It Is

The SCAG Mulching Plate 9287 is an OEM accessory that replaces the standard discharge chute on select SCAG mower decks to convert them for mulching. It recirculates clippings inside the deck for finer cut and nutrient return, ideal for frequent mowing or leaf management.

Fitment & Compatibility

This plate fits SCAG mower decks 48", 52", and 61" with a Velocity Plus deck design (V-ride, Turf Tiger, Cheetah, Patriot, and Wildcat models from the mid-2010s onward). Before buying:

• Measure your deck width – it must be 48", 52", or 61". It will NOT fit 36" or 72" decks.
• Check your deck type – only for Velocity Plus (deep-deck) models. Older standard-deck SCAGs use a different part.
• OEM vs aftermarket – This is genuine SCAG; some aftermarket plates exist but may not seal as well or fit without modification.
• Hardware – Verify your deck has the two mounting bolt holes (usually 3/8" or 5/16" fasteners). The plate includes gaskets, but you may need to reuse existing bolts.

• Quality – Heavy-gauge steel with powder coat; holds up well under constant use. Gasket included for tight seal against deck.
• Installation – Easy, 10-minute job. Remove two bolts holding the discharge chute, swap in the mulching plate, and reinstall bolts. No drilling or cutting required.
• Common gotchas – If your deck has a side-discharge deflector (safety flap), you must remove it first. The plate replaces it entirely. Also, mulching works best with sharp blades and dry grass – wet clippings will clump.
• Performance – Finer clipping than standard side-discharge, but may leave streaks in tall, thick grass. Use SCAG mulching blades (sold separately) for best results.

Should You Buy It

Buy this if you have a compatible SCAG Velocity Plus deck and want to mulch regularly without buying a dedicated mulching mower. It’s a solid OEM part that installs quickly and improves clipping quality, but skip it if you only mow occasionally or prefer bagging – the plate is not reversible for bagging without removing it.
