What It Is

The Edge Tamer® is a patented, Made in USA bucket protector designed to prevent metal-to-concrete contact when clearing snow, mulch, or leaves with a skid steer or tractor loader bucket. It attaches to the cutting edge of buckets 54 inches and smaller, shielding the bucket lip and protecting driveways, sidewalks, and turf from gouging or scraping.

Fitment & Compatibility

This 2-piece set fits buckets up to 54 inches wide, with each piece covering about 27 inches. Before buying:

  • Bucket width: Measure the actual cutting edge width—not the overall bucket width. If it’s 54 inches or less, these will cover it.
  • Mounting style: Requires bolts (not included) to attach through existing holes in your bucket’s cutting edge. Check that your bucket has pre-drilled holes or is drillable (steel buckets only).
  • Edge thickness: Works with standard bucket edges up to 3/8 inch thick. Thicker edges may need longer bolts or spacers.
  • Brand/model: Universal fit for most skid steer and compact tractor loaders (Bobcat, John Deere, Kubota, New Holland, etc.) as long as bucket width and edge thickness match.

Key Things to Know

  • Installation difficulty: Moderate—you’ll need a drill, bits, and hardware (bolts, lock washers, nuts). No welding required.
  • Durability: Made from heavy-duty UHMW polyethylene (not rubber or plastic). Resists wear from concrete, asphalt, and gravel better than bolt-on steel edges.
  • Surface protection: Eliminates sparks and noise from metal-on-concrete; also prevents turf tearing when grading or back dragging.
  • Common gotcha: If your bucket has a bolt-on cutting edge, you may need to remove it first or use longer bolts to sandwich the Edge Tamer underneath. Check clearance for bucket teeth or quick-attach systems.

Should You Buy It

If you regularly clear snow, mulch, or dirt on concrete or asphalt and want to avoid damaging surfaces (or your bucket edge), this is a cost-effective, long-lasting solution. It’s ideal for contractors, property managers, and homeowners with a skid steer or compact tractor who need reliable surface protection without constant replacement. Skip it if you only use your bucket for digging in dirt or rock—steel edges are better there.
