What It Is

The COSTWAY Lawn Roller is a 22-inch wide, 18-inch diameter steel drum that can be pushed by hand or towed behind a lawn tractor or ATV to flatten soil, smooth bumps, and press in seed or sod on lawns, gardens, or parks.

Fitment & Compatibility

  • Tow hitch: Requires a standard 1-7/8-inch ball hitch on your tractor or ATV. Does not include a ball mount—you’ll need one that fits your vehicle’s receiver.
  • Push mode: Works with any mower or vehicle as long as you attach the included handle (no special deck fitment needed).
  • Weight capacity: The drum holds up to 200 lbs of water or sand (not included). Empty weight is ~35 lbs.
  • Deck clearance: Not designed to mount under a mower deck. It’s a separate tow-behind or push tool, so no deck size compatibility issues.
  • Assembly: Requires basic tools (wrenches, socket set). No welding or drilling needed.

Key Things to Know

  • Water vs. sand: Water is easier to drain but can freeze and crack the drum. Sand adds more weight but is permanent (hard to remove). Fill only to 2/3 capacity to leave room for sloshing.
  • Rust concerns: The steel drum is painted but not galvanized. Expect surface rust after a season if left outdoors. Store dry or apply a rust inhibitor.
  • No ballast included: You must buy water, sand, or gravel separately. The drum has a 2-inch threaded plug for filling/draining.
  • Tow speed: Keep under 5 mph when towing. The drum is not designed for high-speed turns—sharp corners can tip or damage the hitch.

Should You Buy It

Buy this if you need a budget-friendly roller for occasional lawn-leveling, seed-bed prep, or sod pressing and you already have a tractor or ATV with a 1-7/8-inch hitch. Skip it if you want a heavy-duty, rust-proof roller for commercial use or need a zero-turn-friendly model—this one is best for light residential jobs.
