What It Is

This is an aftermarket PTO (Power Take-Off) clutch for Cub Cadet lawn tractors. It engages and disengages the mower deck blades. It’s designed for residential and light-commercial use on mid-to-large frame lawn tractors with 42–54-inch decks.

Fitment & Compatibility

Check your model number. The Xtreme Outdoor X0008 is a direct replacement for OEM part numbers 918-03372, 918-03372A, and 918-03372B. It fits the following Cub Cadet models: i1042, i1046, i1050, L1046, L1050, LT1042, LT1045, LT1046, LT1050, LTG1050, LTG1054, LTX1042, LTX1045, LTX1046.

Before buying, verify:

  • Deck size: Works with 42, 46, 50, and 54-inch decks on these models.
  • Shaft diameter: Standard 1-inch shaft with 3/16-inch keyway. Measure your old clutch shaft to confirm.
  • Mounting bolt pattern: 3-bolt pattern on 3.25-inch center. Check your existing clutch.
  • Electrical: 12V DC, single-wire engagement (ground through the clutch body).
  • Pulley diameter: 4.5 inches. Measure your old pulley if you’re replacing a non-OEM part.

If your mower has a different bolt pattern or shaft size, this clutch won’t fit.

Key Things to Know

  • Aftermarket, not OEM. It’s a cheaper alternative to Cub Cadet’s $250–$300 OEM clutch. Quality is generally good for the price, but some users report slightly shorter lifespan than OEM.
  • Installation difficulty: Moderate. You’ll need basic hand tools (socket set, torque wrench), and you must remove the mower deck and belt to access the clutch. Expect 1–2 hours.
  • Common gotcha: The clutch must be shimmed correctly to the engine crankshaft. Use the included shims to achieve 0.010–0.030 inch air gap between the clutch rotor and armature. Too tight or too loose causes premature failure.
  • Wiring: Single-wire design. Connect the wire to the existing harness; the clutch grounds through its mounting bolts. Ensure bolts are clean and tight for a good ground.

Should You Buy It

If you need a reliable replacement for a failed PTO clutch on a compatible Cub Cadet tractor and want to save $50–$100 over OEM, this is a solid choice. It’s best for DIY owners comfortable with moderate mechanical work. If you need maximum longevity or have a commercial-use mower, stick with OEM.
