What It Is

This is a V-groove idler pulley (3" OD, 3/8" bore) that tensions the deck belt on riding mowers. It replaces OEM MTD/Cub Cadet parts 756-04209, 756-0116, 756-0116A, and 756-1207.

Fitment & Compatibility

  • Measure first: Confirm your old pulley has a 3" outside diameter and a 3/8" bore (center hole). If your bore is 5/8", this won’t fit.
  • OEM cross-reference: Direct replacement for MTD/Cub Cadet part numbers above. Also fits many Troy-Bilt, Craftsman, and Yard Machines models using those same pulleys.
  • Deck size: Commonly used on 42", 46", and 50" decks, but not universal—check your deck’s belt routing diagram.
  • Bearing type: This is a sealed ball bearing pulley (no grease fitting). If your mower uses a bushing-type pulley, this won’t be compatible.

Key Things to Know

  • Installation difficulty: Easy—remove the center bolt/retainer, swap pulleys, and re-tension the belt. No special tools needed.
  • Bearing quality: Generally good for the price, but some users report slightly less smooth spin than OEM. If you mow heavy wet grass or rough terrain, consider a premium sealed bearing.
  • Common gotcha: The 3/8" bore is for a shoulder bolt or a stepped spacer. If your mower uses a 5/8" bolt, buy a bushing adapter or choose a different pulley.
  • Noise: A new pulley may be slightly louder for the first few hours until bearings seat in.

Should You Buy It

Buy this if you need a budget-friendly, direct-fit replacement for a worn MTD/Cub Cadet idler pulley and your bore is 3/8". It’s fine for standard residential mowing. Avoid if you have a heavy-use commercial mower or need a 5/8" bore—those will require a different part.
