The SporGain Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener is a benchtop grinder that uses a 7-inch ceramic wheel and 3000 RPM brushless motor to sharpen any mower blade—high lift, low lift, Gator, or flat. It’s designed for homeowners and small shops who want fast, consistent blade sharpening without removing the blade from the mower.
Fitment & Compatibility
- Blade types: Works with all standard walk-behind mower blades (up to ~22 inches long) and most zero-turn/riding mower blades (up to 24 inches). Not for large commercial deck blades over 30 inches.
- Deck size: Fits blades from 18-inch push mowers up to 54-inch zero-turn decks. Check your blade’s center hole diameter (common sizes: 5/8", 7/8", 1")—the grinder’s arbor is 5/8", so you may need a bushing adapter for larger holes.
- OEM vs aftermarket: Works equally well on OEM and aftermarket blades. No brand-specific lockout.
- Before buying: Measure your blade’s length and center hole. Ensure your workbench has at least 2 feet of clearance in front and above the grinder.
Key Things to Know
- Quality: Ceramic wheel stays true longer than abrasive discs. The brushless motor runs cool and quiet, with a lifetime motor warranty (covers defects, not wear).
- Installation difficulty: Easy—mount to bench with included hardware, attach wheel, and plug in. No wiring or special tools needed.
- Gotchas: The 7-inch wheel can’t sharpen severely bent or chipped blades (replace those first). Use the included sanding discs for final edge finish; the ceramic wheel is for rough grinding.
- Maintenance: Clean the wheel with a dressing stick after every 10 blades to prevent glaze buildup.
Should You Buy It
Buy if you sharpen blades more than once a season and want a dedicated tool that’s faster than a file but cheaper than a professional sharpener. Skip it if you only own one mower and sharpen once yearly—a hand file is simpler and costs $10.
