What It Is

The Rotary Corp Universal Blade Balancer is a simple, low-cost tool designed to check if a lawn mower blade is balanced before or after sharpening. It works with most standard walk-behind and riding mower blades that have a center hole.

Fitment & Compatibility

  • Blade hole diameter: Fits blades with a center hole from 1/2" up to 1". Measure your blade’s center hole before buying—larger or odd-shaped holes (e.g., some zero-turn or commercial blades) may not work.
  • Blade length & weight: No hard limit, but very long or heavy blades (over 22") can be awkward to balance on this plastic cone. It’s best for standard 18"-22" residential blades.
  • Brand/model: Universal—works with any brand (Toro, Honda, Craftsman, John Deere, etc.) as long as the center hole fits. No OEM-specific adapter needed.
  • Construction: Plastic cone on a metal base. Not suitable for heavy-duty shop use or commercial shops balancing dozens of blades daily.

Key Things to Know

  • Accuracy: Good enough for homeowner use. The plastic cone can be slightly off-center out of the box—check by rotating the balancer 180° and re-reading. If the blade tips the same way, it’s balanced.
  • Installation difficulty: Zero. Place on a level surface, drop the blade onto the cone, and see if it tips. No tools needed.
  • Gotcha: The cone tip can wear or get damaged over time, reducing accuracy. Keep it clean and store in a dry place.
  • Alternative: A simple nail or screw in a wall works for free, but this is more convenient and portable.

Should You Buy It

If you sharpen your own mower blades a few times a year and want a cheap, no-fuss way to prevent vibration and uneven cuts, this balancer does the job. Skip it if you have commercial-grade or non-standard blades, or if you’re fine using a homemade method.
