What It Is

This is a six-pack of 21-inch mulching blades designed to replace OEM part numbers 742-0741, 742-0741A, 942-0741, and 942-0741A. They fit many Craftsman, Cub Cadet, MTD, and Troy-Bilt walk-behind mowers, primarily for fine grass clipping mulching rather than bagging or side-discharge.

Fitment & Compatibility

Before buying, verify:

  • Deck size: Blade length is 21 inches (center hole to tip). Measure your existing blade from tip to tip – if it’s not exactly 21”, these won’t fit.
  • Center hole: 7-point star pattern, 1” diameter. Common on MTD/Cub Cadet spindles, but not universal. Check your blade’s center hole shape.
  • OEM cross-reference: Fits models using 742-0741, 742-0741A, 942-0741, or 942-0741A. Common on TB100, TB115, TB130, TB240 series, but confirm your mower’s OEM part number.
  • Aftermarket note: These are not OEM Cub Cadet blades. They are aftermarket replacements from Podoy. Quality and balance can vary – inspect each blade before mounting.

Key Things to Know

  • Installation difficulty: Moderate. You’ll need a socket wrench and blade removal tool (or block the blade). Torque the center bolt to 35-45 ft-lbs. Always disconnect the spark plug before working.
  • Mulching vs. bagging: These are dedicated mulching blades with a curved, high-lift design. They will not give good bagging or side-discharge results. Use only for mulching grass.
  • Balance check: Aftermarket blades sometimes come unbalanced. Balance each blade on a nail or blade balancer before installation. An unbalanced blade causes vibration, poor cut, and spindle wear.
  • Sharpness: Blades are sharp out of the box but may need a quick edge touch-up after first use. Resharpen every 10-15 hours of mowing.

Should You Buy It

Buy this six-pack if you have a compatible 21-inch MTD/Cub Cadet/Troy-Bilt mower, need to replace multiple blades or plan to keep spares, and primarily mulch grass. It’s a good value for the price, but check your center hole pattern and balance each blade before use. If you bag or side-discharge, look for a dedicated blade for those tasks.
