The PIT66 PTO Shaft is a Series 4 driveline with 1-3/8" 6-spline ends on both sides and a slip clutch, designed to connect a tractor’s PTO to implements like mowers, rotary tillers, and bush hogs. It’s a universal replacement for worn or broken shafts on compact to mid-size tractors.
Fitment & Compatibility
Before buying, measure your tractor’s PTO shaft length from the tractor PTO stub to the implement input. This shaft adjusts from 31.5" to 41" (collapsed to extended). Confirm both ends require 1-3/8" diameter, 6-spline female connections—common on Category 1 and 2 tractors (e.g., Kubota, John Deere, Ford, Mahindra). Check your implement’s input spline type; some older or European models may use 1-1/8" or 20-spline. The slip clutch adds ~4" to overall length, so ensure clearance for the clutch housing. Not for zero-turn mowers or garden tractors with 5/8" or 3/4" PTOs.
Key Things to Do
- Measure twice: Collapse the shaft fully and measure from lock pin to lock pin; the shaft must fit within your implement’s required range. Out-of-range means a custom order.
- Slip clutch setup: The clutch ships with bolts pre-torqued for break-in. After the first 30 minutes of use, check and retorque to spec (typically 14-18 ft-lbs) to avoid slippage or damage.
- Check shear bolt vs. slip clutch: If your implement uses a shear bolt, the slip clutch may override it—ensure the clutch is set to slip before the shear bolt rating (usually 200-300 ft-lbs).
- Grease regularly: The cross bearings and telescoping tubes need grease every 8-10 hours of use; the slip clutch does not.
Should You Buy It
If you need a rugged, adjustable replacement for a standard 1-3/8" 6-spline PTO shaft on a compact or utility tractor, the PIT66 offers solid value with a slip clutch for shock protection. It’s best for mowers, tillers, or shredders where length fits the 31.5–41" range. Skip it if your implement requires a different spline size, a shear bolt setup, or a shorter/longer shaft.
