The Oregon 96-401 G3 Gator Blades are a set of two aftermarket mulching blades designed for EGO battery-powered lawn mowers. They use a patented “Gator” wave-shaped cutting edge to shred grass clippings finer than standard blades, improving nutrient recycling and reducing bagging frequency.
Fitment & Compatibility
Before buying, verify these three things:
- Deck size: These blades fit 21-inch cutting decks only. Measure your mower deck width (not the blade length) if unsure.
- Model compatibility: Directly replaces OEM blades on EGO models LM2100, LM2101, LM2102SP, and LM2110SP. Also fits select Greenworks, Kobalt, and Ryobi 21-inch mowers, but always cross-check the blade length (21 inches) and center hole diameter (1 inch).
- OEM vs aftermarket: Oregon is a respected aftermarket brand. These are not OEM EGO parts, but they meet or exceed OEM specs for thickness and hardness. Check your mower manual for “OEM only” warranty language—using aftermarket blades may void coverage.
Measurement check: Blade length must be exactly 21 inches, center hole 1 inch, and thickness 0.150 inches. Measure your current blade to confirm.
Key Things to Know
- Cut quality: The G3 design produces finer clippings than standard EGO blades, ideal for mulching. Not recommended for bagging—the fine shredding can pack bags too tightly.
- Installation: Easy swap with one nut per blade (typically 15/16-inch or 5/8-inch socket). Torque to 35–45 ft-lbs. Use thread locker if your mower vibrates heavily.
- Sharpening: Can be sharpened once or twice, but the wave pattern makes it tricky. Most users replace rather than sharpen.
- Balance check: Out of the box, these blades may need balancing. Use a blade balancer; if one side drops, file the heavy side until level.
Should You Buy It
If you own a compatible EGO 21-inch mower and primarily mulch leaves or grass, these blades are a solid upgrade over stock. They cut finer, last longer (thicker steel), and cost less than OEM replacements. Skip them if you bag frequently or have a different deck size.
