What It Is

This is a set of four Gator G3 mulching blades (Oregon part 96-362) designed to replace OEM blades on Toro Timecutter 42-inch zero-turn mowers. They use a patented multi-step cutting edge to shred clippings finer than standard blades, reducing bagging frequency and improving lawn appearance.

Fitment & Compatibility

  • Deck size: 42-inch cutting deck only. Do not use on 44", 50", or 60" decks.
  • Direct OEM replacements: Toro part numbers 106-6583-03, 106-8744-03, and 110-6568-03.
  • Mower models: Toro Timecutter SS4225, SS4235, SW4200, SWX4250, MX4250, and similar 42" Timecutter models. Verify your mower’s serial number against Toro’s compatibility chart if unsure.
  • Measurements: Blade length 17.25", center hole 0.75" x 1.0" oval, thickness 0.197". Measure your existing blade before ordering—aftermarket blades may vary slightly from OEM specs.
  • Note: These blades are not compatible with Toro Recycler, Super Recycler, or walk-behind mowers. They are for zero-turn Timecutter decks only.

Key Things to Know

  • Mulching performance: G3 blades produce finer clippings than standard or Gator G2 blades, but require a mulching plug or kit for best results. Do not use with a bagger unless you want ultra-fine material.
  • Installation: Bolt pattern matches OEM, but the blades are slightly heavier. Use a torque wrench—tighten to 40–50 ft-lbs. Over-tightening can strip the spindle or crack the blade.
  • Sharpening: G3 blades have a hardened edge. Sharpening with a file or grinder will remove the factory heat treatment; replacement is cheaper than resharpening.
  • Balance check: Always balance new blades before installing. Even a small imbalance causes vibration and premature spindle wear.

Should You Buy It

Buy these if you want noticeably finer mulching on your 42" Toro Timecutter and don’t mind swapping blades every 25–30 hours of use. They’re a good value for the price, though the G3’s aggressive design can leave a dustier finish on dry grass. Skip them if you primarily bag or side-discharge—standard Gator G2 blades will last longer and cost less.
