This is an adjustable blade sharpening jig that clamps to a workbench and guides an angle grinder to sharpen lawn mower blades. It’s designed for homeowners or small repair shops sharpening multiple blades with consistent bevel angles.
Fitment & Compatibility
- Max blade width: 78mm (about 3 inches). Measure your blade’s flat width before buying—most residential blades are 2–3 inches, but some wide or commercial blades exceed this.
- Angle range: 15°–45°, covering most standard mower blades (typically 30°–35°). Check your blade’s existing bevel angle with a protractor or angle finder.
- Left/right hand blades: Works for both, but you must flip the jig orientation for opposite-handed blades. Not for mulching or serrated blades (only straight-edge).
- No brand/model restrictions: Universal fit for any blade that fits within the width and angle limits. No OEM-specific adapters needed.
- Requires an angle grinder (not included) with a grinding disc. The jig has a ball-bearing handle that mounts to the grinder’s side handle hole (standard M8 or M10 thread—verify your grinder’s thread size).
Key Things to Know
- Ball-bearing handle reduces vibration but adds bulk—your grinder must have a removable side handle to attach it. Some grinders with non-standard threads won’t fit.
- Assembly takes 10–15 minutes; instructions are basic but adequate. Check all bolts are tight before first use—a loose jig ruins the bevel.
- Sharpens only the cutting edge, not the entire blade face. You’ll still need to balance the blade after sharpening (use a blade balancer or nail trick).
- No depth stop—you control how much metal to remove. Beginners often over-grind; take light passes and check frequently.
Should You Buy It
Buy this if you sharpen multiple mower blades per season and want repeatable, consistent bevels without freehand grinding. Skip it if you only sharpen one blade a year (a hand file is cheaper and faster) or if your blades are wider than 78mm or have serrated/notched edges.
