What It Is

This is a reinforcement ring that bolts to the underside of a John Deere mower deck to prevent the spindle housing from cracking or bending under stress. It’s designed for residential-use Deere mowers with 42" to 48" stamped steel decks.

Fitment & Compatibility

  • Models confirmed fit: D100, D110, D120, D130, D140, D160, L100, L110, L120, L130, LA105, LA165, X110, X120, X140 (and most Deere models using the same stamped deck).
  • Deck size: Works on 42", 46", and 48" decks. Not for 54" or fabricated (heavy-duty) decks.
  • OEM vs aftermarket: Aftermarket replacement for OEM part AM137396 or AM108272. Not identical to OEM – slightly thicker at 3/16" vs OEM’s 1/8".
  • What to measure: Spindle housing diameter (approx. 2.5" center hole) and bolt pattern (4 bolts on a ~3.5" square spacing). Check your deck for cracks or oblong bolt holes before ordering.

Key Things to Know

  • Installation difficulty: Easy – remove the blade and pulley, then bolt the ring to the spindle housing. No drilling or welding required. Expect 20-30 minutes per spindle.
  • Included hardware: Comes with bolts and lock washers. Use thread locker (Loctite) on the blade bolt when reinstalling.
  • Thicker than OEM: The 3/16" steel adds noticeable reinforcement but may require slightly longer spindle bolts if yours are worn or stripped.
  • Gotcha: Only fits stamped steel decks – not for fabricated (welded) decks like on X500 series or ZTrak zero-turns.

Should You Buy It

Buy this if you have a residential John Deere with a stamped deck and you’ve noticed spindle wobble, deck vibration, or visible cracks around the spindle hole. It’s a cheap, easy fix that can extend deck life by several seasons. Skip it if your deck is already heavily rusted or the spindle housing is warped – you’ll need a new spindle assembly instead.
