These reinforcement rings are steel plates that bolt onto the top of your mower deck’s spindle housing to stiffen it and reduce flex under heavy cutting stress. They’re designed for older or worn John Deere decks where the original sheet metal spindle area has started to deform, causing belt misalignment or blade wobble.
Fitment & Compatibility
- Works with these John Deere models: D100, D110, D120, D130, D140, D160, L100, L110, L120, L130, LA105, LA165, X110, X120, X140.
- Deck sizes: Fits 42”, 48”, and 54” decks on these tractors.
- Check spindle bolt pattern: These rings use 3 bolts (same as OEM spindle mounting). Measure center-to-center distance between two adjacent bolt holes; it should be 2.625” for standard John Deere spindles on these models.
- Aftermarket vs OEM: Kipa is an aftermarket brand; rings are 3/16” plate steel (thicker than some OEM rings). They include bolts, but reuse your existing spindle nuts if they’re in good shape.
- Do not buy if: Your deck has already been welded or the spindle housing is cracked—these rings won’t fix structural metal failure.
Key Things to Know
- Quality: 3/16” steel is noticeably thicker than the 1/8” or 14-gauge rings from some other brands. Holds up well to scalping and rocky terrain.
- Installation difficulty: Easy for a DIYer (20–30 minutes). You’ll need a socket set and a jack to lift the deck. No drilling required—bolts line up with existing spindle holes.
- Common gotcha: Tighten bolts to 25–30 ft-lbs. Over-tightening can strip the thin deck metal underneath. Use thread locker if the deck vibrates heavily.
- Fitment note: These rings sit above the spindle pulley, so check clearance if you have a deck wash port or a belt guard—may need minor adjustment.
Should You Buy It
If your John Deere deck shows a slight bulge or warp around the spindle holes, or you’re replacing a spindle and want to prevent future deformation, this is a cheap, effective fix. Not needed on a new deck, but for $18 it’s a solid upgrade for older machines that see rough terrain or tall grass.
