This is a replacement spindle assembly (also called a mandrel) that drives the mower blade on a zero-turn or riding mower. It’s designed for 40–54 inch fabricated or stamped steel decks on Husqvarna, Craftsman, Poulan, and other lawn tractors.
Fitment & Compatibility
- Direct OEM replacement: Husqvarna part 587819701. Also fits Craftsman, Homelite, Jonsered, Poulan, and Weed Eater models that use that OEM number.
- Common models: LOGTH2448T, PO17542LT, W14538. Cross-check your model number—these are not universal.
- Deck size: Typically used on 42–54 inch decks. Measure your spindle bolt pattern (center-to-center of mounting holes—usually 3.5–4.0 inches) and verify the shaft diameter (often 5/8” or 3/4”).
- Brand note: Works on many Craftsman/Husqvarna-built decks, but not on older MTD or AYP spindles. If your deck has a different housing shape or bearing size, this won’t bolt up.
Before buying: Remove your old spindle and compare the housing height, shaft length, and bearing cup diameter. If the pulley mounting hole pattern differs, you’ll need a different spindle.
Key Things to Know
- Quality: Aftermarket unit, not OEM Husqvarna. Most users report it’s fine for residential use, but bearings may wear faster than OEM under heavy commercial use.
- Installation difficulty: Moderate. You’ll need a socket set, a torque wrench (60–80 ft-lbs for the blade nut), and possibly a puller if the old spindle is seized. Expect 30–60 minutes.
- Common gotchas: The included grease fitting is small—use a needle adapter if your grease gun won’t fit. Also, the pulley retaining bolt may be reverse-threaded on some decks; check before cranking.
- Extra parts needed: You may need new blade bolts/lock washers and a new pulley if yours is worn. The spindle does not include a blade or pulley.
Should You Buy It
If you have a Husqvarna/Craftsman-style deck with a worn or bent spindle and you’re doing a DIY repair on a residential mower, this is a solid budget pick. Skip it for commercial zero-turns or if you want guaranteed long-term durability—buy the OEM Husqvarna spindle instead.
