This is the OEM Honda blade set (part numbers 72531-VE2-020 and 72511-VE1-020) for Honda HRR216 and HRR217 mower decks. It includes two symmetrical blades designed for standard mulching and bagging on residential Honda walk-behind mowers.
Fitment & Compatibility
Before buying, confirm three things:
-
Deck size: Fits only 21-inch Honda HRR decks. Measure your blade length – OEM is 21.0 inches end to end, center hole diameter 1.0 inch, with two offset mounting holes (spacing 3.0 inches center-to-center). If your blade measures differently, this set won’t fit.
-
Model compatibility: Direct fit for HRR216K9, HRR216K9A, HRR216K9VKA, HRR216VKA, HRR216VLA, HRR216TDA, HRR217K9, HRR217K9A, HRR217VKA, and HRR217VLA. Check your model number on the mower’s deck sticker – not the engine.
-
OEM vs aftermarket: These are genuine Honda blades. Aftermarket equivalents (e.g., Oregon 91-050) are cheaper but may have slightly different balance or steel hardness. If you have a Honda blade adapter (part 72531-VE2-010), this set includes the correct adapter.
Key Things to Know
- Installation difficulty: Easy – one bolt per blade (13mm or 1/2-inch socket). Torque to 35–40 ft-lbs. Mark blade orientation before removal; these are not reversible.
- Quality: Factory heat-treated steel with anti-rust coating. Edge holds sharpness longer than most aftermarket blades.
- Common gotcha: The blade adapter (center disk) must be seated properly – if it’s loose or upside down, the blade will wobble and damage the spindle. Replace the adapter if worn.
- Lift vs mulching: These are medium-lift blades – good for bagging and standard mulching. For heavy mulching, consider the Honda GCV mulching blade set (72531-VE2-020 is the same, but check your deck’s mulch plug compatibility).
Should You Buy It
Buy this if you own a Honda HRR216 or HRR217 and want guaranteed fit, factory balance, and longer edge life than cheap aftermarket sets. Skip it if you’re on a tight budget (aftermarket works fine for occasional use) or need a high-lift bagging blade for wet grass – those require a different Honda part number.
