What It Is

This is the secondary (B) PTO drive belt for select Cub Cadet GT series garden tractors with 42- to 60-inch fabricated decks. It transfers power from the electric PTO clutch to the deck spindles on mowers used for residential lawn care.

Fitment & Compatibility

Before buying, verify these three things:

  • Deck size: Fits decks stamped 42, 48, 50, 54, and 60 inches (e.g., 42A, 48A, 50A, 54A, 60A fabricated decks). Does not fit stamped steel or older stamped decks.
  • Tractor models: GT 2000, 2100, 2180, 2544, 2550, 2554, 3200, 3204, 3212, 3215, 3225, 3235 (also some 2000/3000 series with 48/54/60 decks). Check your model number tag under the seat.
  • OEM vs aftermarket: This is the genuine Cub Cadet 954-04055 replacement. Aftermarket belts (e.g., Stens 180-338, Oregon 76-438) are usually cheaper but may vary slightly in length or stiffness. Measure your old belt’s outside length (111.4 inches) and width (1/2 inch) to confirm.

Must-check: Look for a “B” belt routing diagram on your deck—this is the second belt, not the primary drive belt. If your deck has a single belt, this won’t fit.

Key Things to Know

  • Quality: OEM belt is Kevlar-reinforced and holds up well under heavy grass or wet conditions. Aftermarket belts may wear faster if you mow thick, tall grass regularly.
  • Installation difficulty: Moderate. You’ll need to release tension by loosening the deck idler pulley. No special tools, but a belt tool helps route around spindles. Plan 20–40 minutes.
  • Common gotchas: The belt is directional—check the arrow on the belt for rotation direction. Installing backward causes premature wear. Also, replace the idler pulley if it’s rough or wobbly; a bad pulley will shred this belt quickly.
  • Length tolerance: 111.4 inches is the OEM spec. Aftermarket belts labeled “111.4” may be 0.2–0.5 inches off—tight enough to cause squealing or loose enough to slip. Stick with OEM if you want exact fit.

Should You Buy It

Buy this if you own a compatible GT series tractor with a fabricated deck and want a drop-in, long-lasting belt without measuring or guessing. It’s the right choice for heavy-use mowing or if you’ve had trouble with aftermarket belts slipping. If you’re on a tight budget and mow a small, clean lawn, an aftermarket belt can work—but check the length and width carefully before ordering.
