The Arnold BSK-1 is a two-in-one tool that lets you balance and sharpen lawn mower blades. It’s designed for home-use walk-behind mowers, not zero-turn or commercial decks.
Fitment & Compatibility
- Blade type: Works with standard single-hole and two-hole blades (common on most residential push mowers). Not for mulching blades with unusual shapes or heavy-duty commercial blades.
- Blade length: Fits blades up to about 22 inches long; check your blade’s center hole diameter (typically 5/8” or 7/8”) fits the balancer cone.
- Sharpener: The included file is generic; it sharpens any steel blade but won’t work on carbide-tipped or coated blades.
- OEM vs aftermarket: Fully universal—no brand-specific limits. Just confirm your blade’s hole size and overall length.
- What to measure before buying: Remove your blade and measure the center hole diameter and overall length. If it’s a two-hole blade, ensure the balancer’s cone can seat in the center hole without interference.
Key Things to Know
- Assembly required: The balancer comes in pieces; you must insert the cone into the base and level it on a flat surface. A slightly uneven tabletop will give false readings.
- File quality: The included file is adequate for light touch-ups but won’t handle badly nicked or bent blades. For heavy damage, you’ll need a bench grinder or separate file.
- Balance accuracy: Works fine for home use but isn’t precise enough for high-speed commercial mowers. Small imbalances are common and usually harmless on residential decks.
- Installation difficulty: Very easy—no tools needed beyond the file and a wrench to remove the blade. Expect 10–15 minutes per blade.
Should You Buy It
Buy this kit if you own one or two push mowers and want a low-cost, simple way to keep blades sharp and balanced between seasons. It’s not for heavy-duty or commercial use, and the file won’t fix badly damaged blades. If you maintain multiple mowers or need precision balance, invest in a standalone balancer and a better sharpening tool.
