What It Is

The Aeagle 717-04183 is an aftermarket PTO (Power Take-Off) clutch that engages and disengages the mower deck blades on select zero-turn and lawn tractors. It’s a direct replacement for failed OEM clutches on Cub Cadet, MTD, and Troy-Bilt models with 42" or 50" decks.

Fitment & Compatibility

Before buying, verify these three things:

  • OEM Part Numbers: Cross-references with 717-04183, 717-04622, 917-04622, 917-04183, and GT1A-MT09. If your old clutch has one of these numbers stamped on it, this will fit.
  • Machine Models: Fits Cub Cadet RZT42, RZT50; MTD ZT42, ZT50, ZT5000; Troy-Bilt Mustang XP RZT 42" & 50". Also fits some Husqvarna and Craftsman models using the same clutch.
  • Physical Check: Measure the clutch diameter (approx. 4.5") and shaft size (1" with a 3/16" keyway). Count the electrical connector pins—this is a 2-pin connector. If your machine uses a 1" shaft and two wires, you’re good.

Key Things to Know

  • Quality vs. OEM: This is a budget aftermarket clutch. Expect shorter lifespan than a genuine Cub Cadet or Stens unit, especially under heavy use or in dusty conditions.
  • Installation Difficulty: Moderate. You’ll need to remove the deck, disconnect the wiring harness, and unbolt the old clutch. A puller tool is often required to separate the old clutch from the shaft—don’t force it.
  • Common Gotcha: The air gap (0.012"–0.025") is pre-set, but verify it after installation. If the gap is too tight, the clutch may drag; too wide, and it won’t engage fully. Adjust with the three mounting bolts if needed.
  • Wiring Polarity: The two wires are not polarity-sensitive on most models, but double-check your machine’s wiring diagram—some older models use a diode in the harness.

Should You Buy It

If you need a quick, budget-friendly fix for a dead PTO clutch on a Cub Cadet or MTD zero-turn and you’re comfortable with moderate DIY mechanical work, this Aeagle unit works. It’s not for heavy commercial use or if you expect OEM durability—go with a Stens or genuine Cub Cadet clutch for that. For occasional residential mowing, it’s a solid value at $130.
