The ACEBRI PTO clutch is an aftermarket electric clutch designed to engage and disengage the mower blades on Exmark S-Series and Toro Vantage stand-on mowers. It’s intended for commercial-grade decks (48 or 52 inches) as a direct replacement for OEM part numbers 116-3553 and 5218-280.
Fitment & Compatibility
Before buying, confirm these three things:
- Deck size: Works with 48" and 52" decks only. Do not use on 60" or 72" decks—shaft diameter and pulley width differ.
- Machine models: Compatible with Exmark S-Series (all years) and Toro Vantage (all years). Not for Toro Z-Master, TimeCutter, or Exmark Lazer Z.
- OEM cross-reference: Replaces Exmark 116-3553 and Toro 5218-280. Measure your old clutch’s shaft diameter (must be 1.0") and overall thickness (approx. 2.5"). If your current clutch has a different bolt pattern or wire connector shape, this may not fit.
Check the wiring harness: this clutch uses a standard 2-pin flat connector. If your machine has a round or 3-pin connector, you’ll need an adapter or splice.
Key Things to Know
- Quality vs. OEM: This is a budget aftermarket clutch. It uses steel pulleys and sealed bearings, but the electromagnetic coil may wear faster than an OEM unit under heavy daily use. Fine for light commercial or homeowner use.
- Installation difficulty: Moderate. You’ll need a puller to remove the old clutch from the crankshaft, a torque wrench (spec: 35-40 ft-lbs for the center bolt), and a multimeter to verify coil resistance (should read 2.5–3.5 ohms). Expect 1–2 hours on your first try.
- Common gotcha: The air gap between the rotor and armature is pre-set, but check it with a feeler gauge (0.010–0.015") before tightening. If too tight, the clutch may drag; too loose, it won’t engage.
- Warranty: ACEBRI offers a 1-year warranty, but you’ll deal with the seller directly—no local dealer support.
Should You Buy It
Buy this if you need a quick, affordable replacement for a 48" or 52" Exmark S-Series or Toro Vantage and you’re comfortable with basic mechanical work. Skip it if you run a commercial fleet mowing 8+ hours daily—the OEM clutch’s longer lifespan and local warranty support are worth the extra cost.
