What It Is

This is a replacement drive belt for the mower deck on select lawn tractors and zero-turn mowers. It transfers power from the engine pulley to the blade spindles. Sized at 3/8″ wide by 31-1/4″ long, it fits decks in the 42″ to 46″ range on many MTD, Cub Cadet, Craftsman, and Husqvarna models.

Fitment & Compatibility

Before buying, confirm three things:

  • Measure your old belt – Lay it flat and measure the length (end to end). The replacement must be exactly 31-1/4″ (79.4 cm) with a 3/8″ width. A belt even 1/2″ off can slip or not engage.
  • Check your deck model – This belt commonly fits 42″ and 46″ stamped-steel decks on MTD-built tractors, Cub Cadet LT/LTX series, Craftsman DLT/GT series, and some Husqvarna YTH/YTA models. It does not fit 48″ or 54″ decks.
  • OEM vs aftermarket – The OEM part numbers are 954-0637A and 754-0637A. This aftermarket belt is a direct replacement for those. It is not a genuine Cub Cadet belt but meets the same 3/8″ x 31-1/4″ spec.

Key Things to Know

  • Quality – Typically a standard rubber/fabric belt. Adequate for residential use, but may not last as long as OEM Kevlar-reinforced belts under heavy mulching or wet grass.
  • Installation difficulty – Moderate. You’ll need to remove the deck, release belt tension by removing a spring or idler pulley bolt, then route the belt around all pulleys. Take photos before disassembly.
  • Common gotchas – This belt is often confused with the 954-0637 (without “A”), which is the same length but a different width. Always verify the “A” suffix. Also, the belt may be tight on some decks; use a pry bar to ease the idler pulley into place.
  • Deck engagement – On some models, this belt also drives the deck engagement pulley. If your PTO engages but blades don’t spin, check belt routing first.

Should You Buy It

Buy this belt if you have an MTD, Cub Cadet, Craftsman, or Husqvarna with a 42″ or 46″ deck and need a cost-effective replacement for light to moderate residential mowing. It’s a solid value at $8.66, but if you mow heavy, damp grass or a large yard, consider an OEM or Kevlar-reinforced belt for longer life. Skip it if your deck is 48″ or larger—it simply won’t fit.
