This is a replacement drive belt for select Cub Cadet and MTD-branded lawn tractors. It transfers power from the engine to the transmission, enabling forward and reverse movement. It’s not for the mower deck—that’s a separate belt.
Fitment & Compatibility
Before buying, check three things:
- Model number – Confirmed fit for Cub Cadet LTX1042, SLTX1050, and others using OEM part numbers 954-04207, 754-04207, 265-213, or M47766. Also fits some MTD and Troy-Bilt tractors with the same belt specs.
- Measurements – This belt is 1/2" wide and 79-1/2" long. Measure your existing belt end-to-end (outside circumference) and width. If yours is a different length or width, it won’t work.
- Deck size – This is a drive belt, not a deck belt. It’s independent of your deck size. Compatibility depends on the tractor model, not the cutting width.
If your tractor uses a different OEM number, cross-reference with the belt length and width. Aftermarket belts may vary slightly in material quality but should match these dimensions exactly.
Key Things to Know
- Installation difficulty – Moderate. You’ll likely need to remove the mower deck and possibly a belt guard. A diagram from your tractor’s manual is very helpful.
- Quality – This is an OEM Cub Cadet belt, so it’s built to the same specs as the original. Aftermarket alternatives may cost less but often wear faster or stretch more.
- Common gotcha – Double-check that you’re replacing the drive belt, not the deck belt. Many owners mistakenly buy the wrong one. The drive belt runs from the engine pulley to the transaxle; the deck belt runs around the spindle pulleys under the deck.
- No mower engagement – This belt does not spin the blades. If your blades aren’t engaging, you need a deck belt instead.
Should You Buy It
If your Cub Cadet LTX1042, SLTX1050, or compatible model is losing forward/reverse power, slipping, or the belt is frayed or broken, this is a direct, correct replacement. It’s a fair price for an OEM part, and the fit is exact. For other brands or models, verify your belt dimensions first. If you’re comfortable with a moderate DIY install, this belt will get your tractor moving again reliably.
