This 42" deck rebuild kit provides all the essential wear parts to restore cutting performance on MTD/Craftsman T1000-T1800 series and Troy-Bilt Bronco/Pony mowers with a 42-inch stamped deck. It includes two spindle assemblies, two blades, and one drive belt—everything needed for a complete deck overhaul in one box.
Fitment & Compatibility
Before buying, verify your mower has a true 42-inch cutting deck (measure blade tip to blade tip). This kit fits:
- Craftsman T1000, T1200, T1400, T1800 (models with 42" deck)
- Troy-Bilt TB42 Bronco, Pony (42" stamped steel deck)
- MTD 42" decks using OEM spindle part 618-06991 / 918-06991
Check your existing spindle part number—if it’s 618-06991 or 918-06991, these are direct replacements. The blades (742-0656, 742-04312, 942-04038) are 21.5-inch high-lift blades. The belt (754-05056) is a 1/2" x 105" K-section belt. Not compatible with 46" or 54" decks, or zero-turn mowers.
Key Things to Know
- Quality is decent for the price – Spindles are aftermarket but use sealed bearings and fit OEM housings. Blades are stamped steel, not hardened, so expect shorter life on rough terrain.
- Installation is moderate – Requires basic tools (socket set, jack stands, penetrating oil). Spindle bolts are often seized; plan for a breaker bar and possibly a torch.
- Belt may need adjusting – The included belt is a generic replacement; you may need to tweak tensioner position or belt routing for proper engagement. Check your deck’s belt diagram before installing.
- Blades are directional – Ensure the air-lift wing is facing up toward the deck. Installing upside-down will cause poor cut and vibration.
Should You Buy It
If your 42-inch MTD/Craftsman or Troy-Bilt deck has worn spindles (noise, wobble), dull blades, or a slipping belt, this kit saves you the hassle of sourcing parts individually. It’s a practical, cost-effective solution for DIY homeowners who want to refresh a tired deck without paying dealer prices. Avoid if you need OEM-grade spindles for commercial use or have a different deck size.
