What It Is

This is a complete replacement carburetor for Honda GCV160 engines, commonly found on push mowers, pressure washers, and small generators. It comes with a fuel filter kit (16952-Z8B-000) to address clogging issues.

Fitment & Compatibility

Before buying, verify your engine is a Honda GCV160 (check the engine model sticker near the spark plug or under the fuel tank). This carb fits GCV160LA0, GCV160A, GCV160LA, GCV160LAO S3A, and NH1 variants. It replaces OEM part numbers 16100-Z0L-852 and 16100-Z0L-853. It will not fit GCV190 or GXV engines. Measure the mounting bolt spacing (2.5 inches center-to-center) and intake port diameter (1.125 inches) to confirm physical match. The included fuel filter is for 5/16-inch fuel line.

Key Things to Know

  • Quality: Aftermarket, not OEM Honda. Expect plastic parts and gaskets that may be less durable than originals. The included fuel filter is a basic mesh type.
  • Installation Difficulty: Moderate – you’ll need to remove the air filter housing, fuel line, and throttle linkage. Watch for a small spring on the governor arm that can pop off easily.
  • Common Gotcha: The carb comes with a pre-set idle screw; you may need to adjust it (turn clockwise to raise idle) after installation. Also, the fuel bowl gasket may not seal perfectly – torque screws evenly.
  • Tuning: If engine surges or dies under load, clean the main jet (often blocked from fuel tank debris) or install an inline fuel filter separately.

Should You Buy It

Buy this if you need a budget-friendly carb for a GCV160 mower that won’t start due to gummed-up jets, and you’re comfortable with basic carb adjustments. Skip it if you want OEM reliability or have a GCV190/GXV engine – get the genuine Honda carb instead.
