The 112-8818 brake cable is an OEM replacement part for Toro 22" Recycler lawn mowers. It connects the handle-mounted brake bail to the engine brake mechanism, stopping the blade and engine when the bail is released. Designed for walk-behind mowers with blade brake systems.
Fitment & Compatibility
This cable fits specific Toro 22" Recycler models: 20314, 20316, 20323, 20330, 20331, 20338, 20350, and 20351. Check your mower’s model number (stamped on the deck or under the rear flap) before ordering. It does not fit other deck sizes or older Toro series. The cable is approximately 42 inches long with a plastic barrel end and a spring clip. OEM part (Toro branded) – no aftermarket cross-reference. Not interchangeable with 112-8817 or other brake cables.
Key Things to Know
- Quality: OEM Toro part – exact fit, no modification needed. Aftermarket cables for this application are rare and often poorly made.
- Installation: Moderate difficulty – requires removing the handle bracket and routing the cable through the handle tube. Have a 3/8" and 1/2" wrench handy.
- Common gotcha: The spring clip at the engine end is fragile – don’t over-bend it. Also, the cable housing can kink if forced around tight bends. Lubricate the inner cable with light oil before installing.
- Check the brake arm: If the mower’s brake arm is bent or seized, replacing only the cable may not solve the problem. Inspect the brake assembly first.
Should You Buy It
If your Toro 22" Recycler (listed models) has a loose, frayed, or broken brake cable that won’t stop the blade, this is the correct, durable fix. It’s a direct OEM replacement at a fair price. Skip it if your mower isn’t one of the listed models or if the brake arm itself is damaged – you’ll need a brake assembly instead.
