A robotic mower getting stuck or losing its way is almost always due to boundary wire issues or obstacle detection failures. Start here:
- Boundary wire break or poor signal – The mower can’t sense its perimeter, so it wanders or stops. Check for visible cuts, exposed wire, or loose connections at the charging station.
- Wet grass or debris buildup – Grass clippings, mud, or leaves on the mower’s underside or wheels can clog sensors or reduce traction, causing it to spin or stall.
- Obstacle sensor blockage – Dirt, cobwebs, or stickers on the front bumper, ultrasonic sensors, or lift/tilt switches can make the mower think it’s stuck or hitting an object.
- Low battery or charging station misalignment – If the battery is weak or the mower can’t dock properly, it may stop mid-lawn and appear “lost.”
- GPS or compass interference – On models with GPS, tall metal structures, dense trees, or strong magnetic fields can confuse navigation.
Safety first: Before any hands-on work, disconnect the mower’s battery (or spark plug if gas-powered, though robotic mowers are electric). Wait 30 seconds for capacitors to discharge.
Step-by-Step Fixes (ordered easiest→hardest, with what to check)
1. Clean the mower (easiest)
- What to check: Underside, wheels, sensors, and charging contacts.
- How: Turn mower off, remove battery. Use a stiff brush or compressed air to clear grass clumps from the blade disc, wheel wells, and bumper. 3. Check obstacle sensors
- What to check: Front bumper, lift/tilt switches, and ultrasonic sensors.

- You’ve tried all above steps and the mower still gets stuck in the same spot with no obvious cause.
